Supported Formats
The following formats are supported.
- Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
- Adobe Photoshop (PSD) (recommend converting to a PDF)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT)
We can attempt to print from other software we currently license (except those listed below), but only by special arrangement, please contact us before submitting a request with unsupported software.
Fonts
Please be aware that we have only the Windows default fonts. If you are designing with special fonts, please use
PDF or PSD formats, as they can internalize font data. Otherwise, other fonts are not supported.
Unsupported Formats
The following formats cannot be printed due to insufficient printer/driver compatability.
- Microsoft Publisher
- Quark/Quark Express
If you are using an unsupported format, you can attempt to export to PDF.
If the computer you are using has Acrobat Professional installed, you can print to the Adobe PDF printer,
which will convert your document. Be sure to select "For Print" as opposed to "For Screen".
FrameMaker: Please convert your FrameMaker files to Adobe PDFs before sending them to us. FrameMaker consistently gives us trouble while printing, which can result in additional operator fees.
Pricing Structure
EECN determines the cost of a poster using three items.
| Item | Cost |
|
1. The square footage of paper used |
| Paper Type |
Per Sq.Foot |
| Semi-Gloss | $1.25 |
| Heavy-Weight Bond | $0.90 |
| Basic Bond | $0.80 |
|
|
2. The volume of ink used. | $0.52 / mL
|
|
3. Operator labor time. | $26 / hour
|
- Cost per foot is based on the cost of paper as of Jan 28th, 2004,
with a 7% waste factor for changing paper and errors.
- Cost per mL is based on the cost of replacement ink cartridges as
of Jan 28th, 2004, calculated with a 3% waste factor.
- Operator time is calculated as an average of the support personnel
salary as of July 1st. Operator time
covers the amount of time spent preparing the file for printing,
dispatching the print out when completed, and recording the appropriate
accounting information, generally assessed as 15 minutes.
- A plot that does not work due to an error in the file or program will still be billed for time and materials.
- A plot that causes difficulties, due to excessive data size or other factor, may be assessed additional operator time.
Example Plot and Cost
The following plot was printed at 36" x 58" on semi-gloss paper and used
6.4 mL of ink.
The cost would be calculated as follows:
| Items | Units | Cost/Unit | Extended |
| 36" semi-gloss paper | 15 sq ft
| $1.25/square foot | $18.75 |
| Ink | 6.4 mL | $0.52/mL | $3.33 |
| Operator Time | 0.25 hr | $26/hr | $6.50 |
| Total Plot Cost | $28.58 |
The ink and operator time used is typical for a poster this size. Some
posters with all solid backgrounds
have used 26 mL of ink when printed at this size.
Payment Methods
Your plot can be paid for either via Interdepartmental Billing, or through the Campus Cashier.
If your poster is for a class-related project, consult your advisor or instructor to obtain a Billing Account Number. If you are going this route, then just supply this number on the form and it will be all taken care of.
To pay for your poster by yourself, mark "Cashier" on the poster request form. Once your poster has been plotted, and its cost determined, you will be notified of the cost. The following proceudre will guide you through this process.
- Pickup Deposit Form from Dillman 207. It should already have the cost of your poster and your request number filled in.
- Take Deposit Form to the Cashier's office (first floor of Administration Building), and pay the balance due.
- Get two receipts. We require one copy, so if you need one for your own purposes, make sure you get at least two.
- Deliever the receipt back to Dillman 207, where you can exchange it for your poster.
