UG-NX3 for non-lab use
Note: EECN cannot fully support the installation of UGNX on your personal computer.
EECN will try and offer suggestions to help. Otherwise, you must complete your UGNX
work in the MTU labs available.
Note: EECN will not attempt UGNX support for Windows Vista or MAC at this time.

- For minimum system requirements, UG reccomends Windows XP (SP1) or Windows 2000 (SP3).
XP Professional and 2000 Professional are certified by UGS to be used with NX.
If you try to use Home Editions and experience troubles, EECN will not help to diagnose it.

and enter username and password (same password as for email).

- Connect to VPN. Note: In order to start NX, off-campus NX users must be connected to the VPN and aquire an MTU address to
establish a connection with the license server.
- Open vpn.mtu.edu in web browser and login with
userid and ISO password (same password as for email).

- If you cannot successfully log in, make sure you sync your password at...
login.mtu.edu
and select "Active Directory/ISO Password Synchronization"
- install necessary plugins.

In Command Prompt (DOS), type "net use * \\eecn-smb1.coe.ad.mtu.edu\nx"
(without the quotes) |
- Enter userid: MTU\userid (Make sure MTU is in CAPS)

- Enter ISO Password (also, same password as for email).
- This will mount the drive as the L: drive (or possibly different drive letter for Vista)
as shown below...
- If MTU\userid does not work and you cannot get passed this login,
your firewall may be blocking it. Temporarily shutting off the firewall
may give you access to this. Start | Control Panel | Windows Firewall | Check off.
Please remember to reset to ON after installing NX.
- If you are using Windows Live OneCare and are having troubles getting passed
this login, please temporarily do the following...
- Go into Windows Live OneCare
- Open my settings
- Open the firewall tab
- Click on Advanced Settings
- Open the Ports and Protocols Tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the list there
- Checked VPN – ESP and VPN – GRE to enable them
- Hit ok to exit out
- Note: For Windows Vista, the directories may need to be copied to your hard drive.
Then
- Right click on the executable files (ie: setup.exe)
- Select properties
- Select the compatability tab
- Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
- Select Windows XP (Service pack 2 in that box)
- Then check the box at the bottom next to "Run this program as an administrator"
- Do the above for ALL of the following exe files:
- Launch.exe (in the opened "base_n_options_translators" folder)
- setup.exe (In the "nx030" folder opened from base_n_options_translators)
- setup.exe (in the "nxflexlm030" folder opened from base_n_options_translators)
- setup.exe (in the "translator030" folder opened from base_n_options_translators)
- Install according to documention on the drive called installnx3.pdf
- You may be required to run Human Modeler. If so, during custom
install, select NXHUMAN dropdown | select "This feature will be installed
on local hard drive."
- If you need NXHUMAN and it did not get installed the first time,
you need to re-install from mounted drive, run Launch | Modify |
select NXHUMAN dropdown | select "This feature will be installed
on local hard drive." | Select Install
- If you do have to modify the install for NXHUMAN, you may
need to run the update after (ugs_update0304 as instructed on pdf) to make sure
everything is at latest revision.
- If you are having problems installing after connecting to the drive,
you can copy directories and files from that drive onto your personal
hard drive and install from there.
- If you are having problems connecting to the drive, you can log into
another computer, mount the drive and copy the directories
and files onto a CD and install to your personal computer from the CD.
- For Windows Vista Users (Not supported by EECN at this time)...
- Select: Start | Programs | NX 3.0
- Right click on NX 3.0 (the program icon)
- Select Properties
- Select the Compatability tab
- Check run in compatability mode then select Windows XP SP2
- Check the run program as administrator box towards the bottom.
- Select Apply and OK
- After launching NX, if you receive a "Runtime Error!",
- If you are using Internet Explorer 7, refer to
UGS Solution
solution being to delete the file C:\\Program Files\UGS\NX 3.0\UGII\Psapi.dll.
